Second Cup: Prepares to capture the UK market

Toronto / CA. (sc) Canadian based International brand The Second Cup Coffee Company Inc. is expanding the reach of the Second Cup café brand once again, as it prepares to open its first café in the United Kingdom. The first café is scheduled to open in Manchester city center in early October, the company said in July 2015 in a news release.

According to the release, the 2’500 square foot, two level café, contains seating for over 65 guests and has already created an enthusiastic buzz within the Manchester community with anticipation for the unique atmosphere created with a spacious, comfortable interior, free Wi-Fi and an indulgent selection of food, beverages and other goodies. Second Cup, originally started in Canada 39 years ago now has over 130 Cafés internationally. Second cup is known for its commitment to serve environmentally correct coffee and other drink creations.

Latest news, that are not available on the company homepage: The Canadian chain is planning to open 500 cafés in the United Kingdom in the next ten years. Back to the news release as read in July:

The Second Cup coffee café concept originated in 1975 in Toronto, Canada. Second Cup’s international expansion started in 2003 and has opened cafés in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Syria, Jordan, Riyadh, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, U.S.A., Cyprus, Romania, Lebanon, Morocco, Kurdistan, Iraq, Taiwan, Azerbaijan, Libya, Pakistan and Ghana and several new regions to open soon.

Second Cup Coffee Company Inc. is a Canadian specialty coffee retailer operating more than 345 cafes across the country. Its headquarters are in Mississauga, Ontario. Founded in 1975 by Tom Culligan and Frank O’Dea, Culligan eventually purchased O’Dea’s shares. After building it to a 150-store chain, he sold it in 1988 to Michael Bregman. As Chairman and CEO, Khalil Al Gawad took Second Cup public in 1993 and in 2002 he sold the company to Cara Operations Limited.
