Fraud: Food labels under suspect

New York City / NY. (wsj) According to a report of the Wall Street Journal and other newspapers, a number of US food companies are being investigated for alleged fraud and corruption in supplying the US military in Iraq. Investigations into prominent companies including Sara Lee, ConAgra Foods and other US-American companies are being conducted by the Department of Justice and the Defense Department. They are looking into whether the companies including charged excessively high prices to the military´s primary food contractor, Kuwait-based Public Warehousing Co. The reports also said that the company which generates more than one billion USD a year in providing food for US military in Iraq may also have improperly pocketed refunds from the suppliers. Justice Department lawyer Brian Mizoguchi told a Washington D.C. court in June that the company is the subject of an active investigation into criminal and civil fraud.
