San Pedro Garza García / MX. (gr) Gruma S.A.B. de C.V. opened a new 55 million USD plant in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. «Gruma’s new facilities in Malaysia with its installed capacity to produce 30’000 tons of tortillas, corn chips, and flatbreads such as wraps and pizza bases per year, is symbolic of Gruma’s basic values and commitment to our customers, consumers, suppliers, shareholders and the community at large», said Gruma CEO and President Juan González Moreno, at the opening ceremony of the company’s new plant in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
«It also represents a major step forward in consolidating our global presence and strengthening our position as the world’s leading producer of corn flour, tortillas, and wraps», added González Moreno.
Gruma’s new plant is an efficient and functional facility built with the highest global food safety standards, fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and advanced environmental controls, staffed with highly skilled personnel, and operated under strict ethical standards.
As he spoke before Malaysian government officials and the Ambassador of Mexico to Malaysia, Mexican entrepreneur Carlos Félix Corona, from the northern State of Nuevo León, reminded the audience that Gruma first arrived in Malaysia in 2007 to produce first rate foods adapted to the lifestyles, culture, and needs of Malaysian consumers, and stepped up its commitment with this 55 million USD investment through its global Mission brand.
Gruma CEO and Presidente Juan González Moreno also affirmed that Gruma’s entrance into the Malaysian market «has allowed us to identify the best business opportunities the country has to offer, which are now bearing fruit with the opening of this new plant, whose highly professional staff are committed to meeting the nutritional needs of the Malaysian community».
Gruma started its Malaysian operations in 2007 when it purchased a specialized flatbread production plant producing wraps, pita bread, pizza bases, naan and flour tortillas, where it has been making first rate products since. In 2013, its Mission global brand entered the Malaysia Book of Records by making the largest wrap in history measuring 814 feet (248 meters) wide.
Gruma also serves its customers and consumers in countries throughout South-East Asia and the Middle East from Malaysia.
