Hamburg Global Bake: around the world of baking

Hamburg / DE. (hmc) The bakery sector is being changed by globalisation and by the integration of markets. That makes it all the more important for the success of a company to get information on how to deal with present and future challenges. That is where the international bakery convention Hamburg Global Bake comes in, as part of the Internorga 2008. This exclusive industry meeting will be held on Friday 07 March, on the first day of this flagship fair for modern catering and food services, at the CCH-Congress Center Hamburg, presenting market potentials, trends and success concepts from all areas of the bakery world.

At this second event in the Hamburg Global Bake series, HMC (Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH) brings together a brilliant collection of experts on «Making Markets, Shaping Markets». This attractive programme is aimed at decision makers and top executives from all segments of the baking industry. With tremendous appeal for owners, suppliers and specialist traders, and for marketing experts and management consultants.

The event will feature top speakers from Germany and abroad, covering a whole range of global trends with extensive reports on experience and useful marketing tips. They will give examples of how to achieve success in an increasingly global market, encouraging people to look beyond their own narrow limits, and giving participants valuable ideas for their own business strategy.

  • For example, Prof. Klaus Brandmeyer will talk about «branding». His presentation on «Brands are Born as Products» will address the nature and value of brands, and show how to establish a product as a brand. Klaus Brandmeyer is a guest professor at the Universities of Berlin, Innsbruck and Vienna, and Honorary Professor in Potsdam; he is highly respected as a brand management authority in the German speaking countries. His clients include companies such as Dr. Oetker and the savings bank organisation Deutscher Sparkassen- und Giroverband. He is also responsible for the branding strategy for Hamburg´s new concert hall, the Elbphilharmonie, which is currently in construction.
  • The enormous changes going on in the bakery sector mean that everyone involved has to adapt constantly to new and unusual situations. Which is precisely the field of expertise of Burghard Pieske – the ideal keynote speaker to talk about pushing the limits of experience. He is an adventurer and writer from Lübeck, and his experience includes ten years of circumnavigating the globe in a catamaran he built himself. His exciting presentation talks about the achievements that people are capable of in extreme situations. His title says it all: «Going to the limits, achieving the exceptional».
  • The other contributions of Hamburg Global Bake likewise promise valuable insights. For example Pierre Nierhaus, the internationally acclaimed expert on current trends in catering, on «Global baking and catering trends, and what we can learn from them».
  • The changes in the sector on our continent are addressed by Helmut Klemme, President of the German Federation of Bakers in his presentation on «Changing markets – bakers and bakery products in Europe».
  • A customer centred view is given by Swen Alt, Chairman of the Management Board of Syndicate Brand + Corporate Design AG, Hamburg. he is an expert on holistic marketing, and addresses the subject of «Customer appeal – new design impulses for the point of sale».
  • Jan Hedh comes to Hamburg from the far North of Europe. This master baker and book writer from Malmö is regarded as Sweden´s best known baker, with his wood furnace bakery and his restaurant and cafe, and will talk about his own development.
  • The mega-trend of health-conscious eating will likewise be addressed at Hamburg Global Bake. Markus Gisiger, Member of the Management Board of Jowa AG, Volketswil (CH) will talk about «More health, more trust, more growth – fewer trans fatty acids in bakery products».
  • Joachim Weckmann, Managing Director of Märkisches Landbrot, Berlin, is a pioneer in organic products for the bakery sector, and will talk about his experience under the heading of «Success with organics, for 27 years».

The international bakery conference Hamburg Global Bake will be held from 9:30 to 18:00 on Friday 07 March, in Hall 6 of CCH-Congress Center Hamburg, which is very close to the fair site. The main conference language is German, and simultaneous translation into English is provided. The conference fee is 385 EUR or just 365 EUR for early birds (booking up to 19 February 2008); the fee is reduced to 50 percent for the third and any further participants from one company.

The Internorga 2008 gives some 1.000 exhibitors from Germany and abroad the chance to present their products and services from all areas of the modern catering and food service market. The 82nd International Fair for the Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Baking and Confectionery Trades, will be held at the Hamburg Fair site from 07 to 12 March, open daily from 10:00 to 18:00. Admission charge: 24 EUR (two-day ticket 34 EUR); trade students and trainees: 12 EUR. Admission subject to proof of bona fide trade visitor status.
