Northampton / UK. (wib) Heygates Limited, Britain´s biggest independent miller, is considering sites in Greater Manchester to build a 50 million GBP bakery for its «Fine Lady of Banbury Bakeries», a local newspaper reported. With a baking capability of – actually – over two million loaves a week, Fine Lady is acknowledged as one of the most modern bakeries in Europe, the family firm Heygates says on its website: «Through careful investment and committed management, the company has grown over thirty years from a small local baker to a high tech modern plant bakery on a ten acre site in its original home of Banbury in Oxfordshire». The Heygate Group today employs 820 people and has six flour mills on three sites – Bugbrooke, Tring Hertfordshire and Downham Market Norfolk. Between them they mill over 350’000 tons of wheat each year and produce over 5’000 tons of flour every week.
