IBC: will close bakeries in Missouri and Ohio

Kansas City / MO. (ibc) Interstate Bakeries Corporation (IBC), maker of Wonder Bread and Hostess Twinkies, said in a statement that it will close bakeries in Springfield (Missouri) and Columbus (Ohio), which employ a total of 230 people. The decision was based on local market changes, including a decline in bread volume from customer purchases, IBC said. The company expects the bakeries to end production by the middle of May. Interstate Bakeries, which recently emerged from four and a half years in bankruptcy, said last month that it would move its headquarters to Dallas (Texas) – along with about ten top executives and ten support staff. About 180 corporate positions will remain in Kansas City (Missouri).
