Maple Leaf U.K.: to invest 11,5 million GBP in bagels

(ml) Maple Leaf Bakery U.K. is one of the leading specialty bakeries producing bagels, croissants, in-store bakery products and hand-held snacks which are marketed in the United Kingdom and Europe. It operates the largest bagel manufacturing facility in the U.K. and has established there New York Bakery Co. (TM) as a leading brand. Now the bagel factory is to undergo a multi-million pound extension. Maple Leaf Bakery U.K. is investing 11,5 million GBP in its facility in Rotherham, which produces private label and branded bagel products. «Our strong performance is the product of the market´s growing demand for bagels, the quality and authenticity of our product and our carefully planned re-launch earlier this year», said Simon Foster, VP Marketing of Maple Leaf Bakery UK. According to Foster the company had added eight million GBP to incremental sales since the re-launch – plus 66 percent.

Over the past decade, Maple Leaf Bakery U.K. has built a highly successful bakery business in the U.K., with leading market shares in high growth core categories through both organic growth and acquisitions. The bagel category has grown significantly 20 percent annually since Maple Leaf Bakery U.K. entered the market. Further growth for bagels and specialty bakery products in the U.K. and European markets will be achieved through branded and private label development. Expansion opportunities have also been identified in the U.K. foodservice market. Maple Leaf Bakery U.K. operates six facilities and employs about 950 people in Great Britain.
