Stockholm / SE. (mcs) 2022 has been an eventful year for McDonald’s Sweden with openings in Bålsta, Umeå, Märsta, Borås, Gothenburg and Sundsvall. This year’s seventh new establishment in Jönköping recently opened its doors along with the country’s 30th McCafé. The McCafé concept, which offers a menu of pastries and barista coffee, was launched in Sweden in 2021. All newly opened restaurants will be equipped with both a McCafé and digital order kiosks, offering extra-tasty burgers cooked to order and the option of table service. In 2023, the expansion continues with several new openings planned.
During the year, McDonald’s opened new restaurants in Bålsta, Umeå, Märsta, Borås, Gothenburg and Sundsvall. The new restaurants will be equipped with modern technology that allows guests to order their food at digital screens that then send the order directly to the kitchen. The food is prepared directly at the time of ordering, which means an even better dining experience and reduces the already low food waste to less than one percent. In addition, the restaurants will offer table service.
«It’s always great to open up a new restaurant and welcome more guests and employees. We are so happy to be able to contribute to many new jobs and to have the chance to welcome young people into the labour market where for many it is their very first time. With the openings we continue to make the good choice easy for our 400,000 daily guests. Our goal is for the new restaurants to be modern, sustainable, accessible and offer top-notch service,» says Joachim Knudsen, CEO McDonald’s in Sweden.
The McCafé concept, which is a separate part of the restaurant where you can buy luxury barista coffee from Löfbergs and choose from a wide range of coffee and desserts, such as macarons, has been launched at each newly opened restaurant. During the year, a total of 24 McCafés have opened their doors. In addition to the new openings mentioned above, McCafés have been opened in Mariestad, Bollnäs, Kalmar, Mora, Nyköping, Uddevalla Torp, Trollhättan, Kristianstad, Västerås, Södertälje and many more.
«Through the McCafé concept, we can offer our guests a whole new level of coffee that is delicious and affordable. We look forward to more guests around Sweden now enjoying a new coffee experience through our new restaurants,» says Staffan Ekstam, Marketing Director, McDonald’s in Sweden.
McDonald’s expansion journey will continue in 2023 with several planned openings and the restaurant chain will grow by 30 to 40 restaurants in Sweden in the coming years.
