Mövenpick: sells Swiss concession gastronomy to Coop

Baar / CH. (mh) Mövenpick Holding AG concluded an agreement with the Coop Group regarding the sale of the Marché Restaurants Schweiz AG. The transaction is still awaiting Swiss Competition Commission approval. Marché Restaurants outside Switzerland and the Mövenpick Restaurants in Basel, Zurich, Lucerne and Chiasso are not affected by this transaction. The Mövenpick Group will continue to expand in growth markets, predominantly Asia.

Marché Restaurants Schweiz AG operates 25 restaurants at 20 rest stops, and another three at Zurich Airport. It is thus the market leader in Swiss concession gastronomy. Marché´s turnover in Switzerland in 2012 exceeded 120 million CHF. Mövenpick and Coop have worked within a successful partnership for many years, which has included Marché´s concession gastronomy locations in Switzerland. Coop´s acquisition of Marché Restaurants Schweiz AG as announced will take this partnership to a new level, in the interests of both companies.

Once the Swiss Competition Commission has given its approval, Marché concession gastronomy is to be gradually integrated as an independent subsidiary into the Coop Group during 2014. Coop intends to continue operating all the newly acquired businesses under the well-known brands Marché and Cindy´s Diner. Customers will enjoy the same products and services. There will be no changes for the 900 employees of Marché Restaurants Schweiz AG.

Marché International and other Mövenpick business units unchanged

Serviced Mövenpick Restaurants operated in Switzerland are not affected by this transaction; these include, among others, the successful Marché Mövenpick and 20/20 operations in Zurich, Brasserie Baselstab in Basel and the Mövenpick Restaurant in Lucerne. Marché International will continue its international activities within the current framework while focusing specifically on the new restaurant concept developed for inner-city locations. The Mövenpick Group will focus its growth activities on Mövenpick Hotels + Resorts, the Mövenpick branded products and continue to develop its wine business.
