Vienna / AT. (revo) Austrian 3D and food tech startup Revo Foods debuted a Generation 2.0 vegan salmon fillet at a public tasting in Vienna on May 30. The fillet, made from 100 percent plant-based ingredients, was prepared by a vegan chef and tasted by ten guests. According to the company, the vegan salmon fillet is considered a gamechanger for fish alternatives, and the startup already holds two patents on new technologies for producing these products. The first salmon fillets will be available in stores from early 2023, according to reports from Vienna.
The startup is developing seafood alternatives using 3D printing technology. Plant-based smoked salmon from Revo is already well-known in Austrian retail. In addition, the start-up successfully promotes its products at gastronomic events. Revo Foods’ first products are available in 16 European countries. The start-up recently received 2.2 million euros from the Alpine Research Promotion Agency (FFG) to further develop its 3D technology.
