Ukraine: grain stocks up 23% compared to last year

(ami) As of October 01, 2011, in Ukraine agricultural enterprises (except of small ones) and grain storage and processing enterprises stocked 21,9 million tonnes of grains – including 13,9 million tonnes of wheat, 3,5 million tonnes of barley, 3,0 million tonnes of maize, 0,4 million tonnes of rye – up 23 percent compared to October 01, 2010, informed the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine. Directly agrarian companies stored 12,5 million tonnes of grains (up 19 percent), including 7,5 million tonnes of wheat, 2,4 million tonnes of barley, 1,3 million tonnes of maize, 0,2 million tonnes of rye. Grain storage and processing enterprises stored 9,4 million tonnes of grains (up 28 percent), including directly grain storage enterprises – 7,1 million tonnes (up 29 percent). Besides, sunflower seeds storing volumes totaled 5,2 million tonnes (down 21 percent compared to October 01, 2010). At the same time, directly agrarian enterprises (except of the small ones) stored 2,6 million tonnes of the oilseed (down 30 percent). The domestic consumption of grains in Ukraine is estimated at the level of 26 million tonnes per year (source: agrimarket.info).
