Noumea / NC. (rnz) The government of New Caledonia wants to fight the rising cost of wheat. Since this week a new bread called «eco bread», that is subsidised by the government, has been launched in the bakeries.
London / UK. (pf) Premier Foods PLC will further increase the price of its bakery products if the cost of wheat remains high, the company explains in its announcement about interim results for the six months to June 30.
Harare / ZW. (beu) One of Zimbabwe´s main bakeries – Lobels Bread – has sent hundreds of workers on forced leave and has exhausted its reserve stock of flour, a company executive is cited as saying: «Flour availability has deteriorated and this has forced us to use our strategic stocks since May. Now we are only left with two days´ supply», the executive told the official Herald.

The chair will be held by Prof. Harry Barkema, who until now was Professor of Strategy and International Management at the School of Economics and Business Administration at Tilburg University, the Netherlands.

Foreign trade currently accounts for 23 percent of the sector´s turnover, which is why more and more German companies are offering food and beverages in other countries as well.

Prebiotics, Omega 3 fatty acid, vitamin D-fortified yeast, other grain flours, soy, fruits, additional fiber and resistant starch are just some of the items currently being added. At the same time, an increasing number of manufacturers in the United States are removing or reducing trans fats, sodium and sugars from grain based foods.
Tulsa / OK. (qtc) QuikTrip Corporation has opened a 100.000-square-foot bakery to supply pastries to its 74 Kansas City area stores, adding about 80 jobs at its complex in Belton. Under the name QT Kitchens, the bakery will initially produce doughnuts, muffins, rolls and cookies.
Bagsvaerd / DK. (nz) Novozymes A/S launches «Acrylaway» to reduce acrylamide which is formed when starchy foods are baked, fried or toasted at high temperatures.
HCMC / VN. (tn) The United States´ Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) will increase the number of its restaurants to 100 in the next three years from 38 now. It is running profitably eight years after entering the country, «Thanhnien News» says.
