Fazer Group: purchases Seniori Ateria

Helsinki / FI. (fg) Finland’s Fazer Group continues the execution of its growth strategy and purchases the Seniori Ateria company. Seniori Ateria is a growing company that provides food service entities for senior citizens in private and sheltered homes all over Finland. As a result of this acquisition, Fazer Food Services will grow in the senior sector which is one of the chosen growth sectors in the food service business.

Fazer is strengthening its quality food service offering by acquiring Seniori Ateria, established in 2009. The company offers ageing people tailor-made tasty and healthy home meals. Their operations focus on customers, quality and innovativeness.

Seniori Ateria provides food service entities for senior citizens in private and sheltered homes all over Finland. The number of employees is 20, 15 of whom work in the production plant in Naantali and 5 in the logistics centre in Tampere. The net sales of the company amount to ca two million EUR. Fazer has offered food services in the senior sector since 2008. The acquisition of Seniori Ateria strengthens Fazer’s positions in the home meal service market.

The size of the senior market in Finland’s food services is around 300 million EUR, out of which a share of some 55 million EUR is outsourced. Fazer’s share in this is 14 million EUR. There are approximately 465’000 over 75-year-olds in Finland at the moment. By 2030, it is estimated that the number of over 75-year-olds will grow to 820’000.

Municipalities and private companies are among Fazer’s clients in the senior sector. «Our clients are responsible for food services to senior citizens living in sheltered homes but also, to a growing extent, living at home. In the future, a growing number of Finnish senior citizens will live longer in their homes and to support their well-being, we want to offer tasty quality food, taking into account their individual needs», says Jaana Korhola.
