Lantmännen: Scan Sverige acquisition now completed

Stockholm / SE. (lg) The deal, which was communicated at the end of 2023, has now been approved by the relevant authorities and completed. The acquisition, which includes all Swedish operations and the Scan, Pärsons and Bullens brands, strengthens Lantmännen’s business portfolio – and the long-term conditions for Swedish agriculture and food production.

Together with its members, 18,000 Swedish farmers, Lantmännen has a unique position in the food chain from farm to fork. Since before, Lantmännen also has a significant presence in the livestock value chain through input goods, machinery and processing of grain into high-quality feed. «It is gratifying that the deal is now completed. Through the acquisition, we further strengthen Lantmännen’s position in the food chain, while securing Swedish ownership of Scan. This is important for Swedish agriculture and food production – and a key issue for strengthening national food security,» says Magnus Kagevik, Lantmännen’s President and CEO.

The new name for HKScan Sweden AB will be Scan Sverige AB. The company has around 1,800 employees and production facilities in Kristianstad, Skara, Linköping and Halmstad, as well as a head office in Stockholm. «I would like to warmly welcome all employees at Scan in Sweden to Lantmännen. Together we have good opportunities to continue to drive the development of a viable and profitable Swedish agriculture and increase the production of food throughout the country,» adds Magnus Kagevik.

With the acquisition, Lantmännen’s total turnover will increase to just over SEK 70 billion and the number of employees to 12,000. «It is with pleasure and optimism that we note that the deal is now finalised. Through close co-operation with our suppliers, the Swedish farms, and responsiveness to consumer needs, we are well equipped for the future. Becoming part of Lantmännen also strengthens our capacity to maximise the benefits of Swedish and locally produced meat, which in turn benefits domestic food production,» says Lars Appelqvist, CEO of Scan Sverige AB.

HKScan Sweden AB has been owned by the Finnish company HKScan Oyj since 2007. Lantmännen has acquired 100 percent ownership of HKScan Sweden AB, which includes the entire Swedish operations of HKScan. As part of the transaction, Lantmännen has transferred its shareholding in HKScan Oyj to HKScan.
