Norway: Import of bread on the increase

Oslo / NO. (np) The import of bread to Norway is at present four times as high a it was in the year 2000, and every fourth loaf of bread consumed in this country is now baked abroad, according to «The Norway Post». Last year, Norway imported bread worth 874 million NOK (about 100,59 million EUR), and the Norwegian bakery industry fear the competition, the newspaper reports. Nearly half the import comes from Sweden and Denmark, while the rest comes from other EU member nations. The survey was made by the Norwegian Agricultural Economics Research Institute.
